How to wash plushies and stuffed animal by hand

Here at QMartCo we understand that plushies and stuffed animals that are old or fragile require a gentler touch and can be washed by hand using the easy instructions below.

Step 1: Soak in cold water
Fill a container or sink with enough cold water to completely submerge the plushie.

Step 2: Add detergent
In a small bowl, dissolve a tiny amount of mild or gentle detergent in the water.

Step 3: Hand wash
Squeeze the plushie gently to absorb the detergent. Fragile stuffed animals may have loose strings or worn fabric, don't scrub too hard.

Step 4: Rinse
Fill the bucket or sink with clean, cold water, or squeeze the stuffed animal gently under cold running water to rinse out the detergent without wringing it.

Step 5: Air dry
An older or more delicate stuffed animal should be air dried, but you may help eliminate moisture by rolling it in a clean, dry cloth first.

How to clean plushies and stuffed animals in the washing machine

Most plushies can be washed in the washing machine, we’ll walk through you through how.

Step 1: Keep the stuffed animal safe.
To protect the stuffed animal from wear and tear, place it in a mesh laundry bag, zipped pillowcase, or pillowcase with the ends fastened.

Step 2: Choose gentle wash settings
To keep colours from fading, use the Delicate, Hand Wash, Gentle, or similar cycles on your washing machine, coupled with cold water. Find out more about how to select wash cycles and settings.

Step 3: Add detergent
Feel free to use your usual detergent when washing stuffed animals, or a mild detergent if you have one.

Step 4: Air dry
Remove the stuffed animals from the mesh bag or pillowcase and dry them by hanging or laying them flat.
